Keep reading to see what upcoming trends speak to you.
Mocha Mousse
The arrival of December each year brings the announcement of Pantone’s eagerly anticipated choice for their upcoming Color of the Year. 2025’s choice, Mocha Mousse, has certainly elicited a variety of reactions online, but according to Pantone, this selection was made to reflect, “delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort”. This choice reflects several trending neutrals that were seen on runways and in home décor predictions and is aimed at elevating basics with a touch of elegance. If you’re obsessed with this color of the year, we recommend our article from Rebecca George on How to Dye Fabric Using Coffee and Tea.
Lime Cream
Not to be outdone, Etsy released their own Color of the Year, Lime Cream. While brat green was trending this past summer, lime cream takes that shade of neon green and turns it down to a soft and muted pastel. Similar to other related shades of green like aventurine and mint, Etsy states in their Color of the Year announcement that this is a retro-modern shade “that’s equal parts calming and uplifting”. Look for lime cream as an accent color that would look dreamy when used for accessories, throw pillows, or wall art.
Beaded Accessories and Accents
Given the popularity of throwback friendship bracelets that skyrocketed during Taylor Swift’s Era Tour, we’re expecting to see a rise in beaded accents and beaded accessories in 2025. This could look like adding delicate seed beads to your sewing and embroidery projects or adding chunky beads to bags, belts, and shoes. Practice working with seed beads with Sophie Tarrant’s Wildwood Quilted Table Runner.
Cherries
Every year there’s a trending food motif; in the past few years alone, we’ve seen strawberries, avocadoes, and shrimp all trend in prints and quirky home décor. 2025 will be all about cherries, so look for cherry designs to show up in clothing and home décor within the next few months, if you haven’t already spotted them. The popularity of cherries coincides with the trending shade of deep and bold red that popped up on Spring/Summer 2025 runways earlier this year.
Bonjour, Paris!
According to Forbes, one rising trend that’s been showing up recently in nursery décor is classic French or Parisian motifs. Taking cues from last year’s trending Rococo revival, look for French country designs or Paris landmarks to show up in baby quilts and other nursery décor in 2025. These designs pair well with powder pink, another trending color for next year.
Pickleball Princess
Pickleball has been trending for the past few years and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon! We’ve been seeing sportswear-inspired looks over the past year (tennis for summer and ski gear for winter), but pickleball seems to have real staying power. Look for customized pickleball bags and other gear to hit stores during the warmer months in 2025. Love the look of classic sportswear? Don’t miss this tennis-inspired skirt from Mary Beth Temple made in rosy pink!
Mermaidcore
While preppy, nautical styles have been the longstanding look of summer, this year, look to see a shift towards the mystical and ethereal look of sirens. Trendspotters from Pinterest have noted Sea Witchery as an aesthetic on the rise, which combines dark, iridescent elements with moody mermaid details. Look for shimmery golds and silvers to dominate clothing trends, as well as seashell and pearl motifs to appear in quilting and home décor.
Upcycling
In our opinion, upcycling is always in, but 2025 is predicted to see an even bigger shift towards sustainability in both sewing and quilting. We expect to see unique upcycling projects made from quilt tops, outside-the-box refashions, and ways to add cool details to clothing and accessories using recycled materials. Dopamine Décor
The days of minimalist home décor are officially over! Dopamine décor, decorating your home in ways that make you happy and brighten your mood, has been trending on social media and is expected to become even more popular in the coming months. Find fun ways to update your existing home furnishings, like creating a quirky DIY lampshade, making a door curtain from fabric scraps, or adding playful embroidery details to your bedding.
