Sewing Instructions:

PREPARE THE PIECES:

  1. Print 1 copy of the PDF pattern and cut out the patterns.
  2. For each coaster, cut 1 green base from green felt, 1 white backing from white felt, and 1 shamrock or four-leaf clover from green felt.

  3. Center a shamrock or four-leaf clover on the white backing and pin it in place.

SEW THE COASTERS:

  1. Thread the sewing machine with green thread, and set it to a narrow zigzag stitch. You may want to test the stitch width on a scrap of white felt.

  2. Alternatively, you can sew the coasters by hand using a whipstitch.

  3. Zigzag stitch (or hand whipstitch) around the shamrock or four-leaf clover. The zigzag stitches should slightly overlap the edge of the green felt. Pivot as needed to help with the curves and corners. (To pivot, position the needle down inside the fabric, then lift the presser foot. Rotate the fabric slightly for curves, or sharply for corners, then lower the presser foot and continue stitching.)

(To continue the curve, put needle down and lift presser foot)

    (Rotate fabric)

(Lower presser foot and continue sewing)

(At sharp corners, lower needle and lift presser foot)

(Rotate fabric, then lower presser foot and continue sewing)

  4. Center each white backing on a green base, and pin in place.

  5. Zigzag stitch (or hand whipstitch) around each white backing, so the stitches overlap the edge of the white backing.

  6. Straight stitch along the center of each leaf and stem.
