Trailblazer Reversible Infinity Scarf

Combine luxurious fabrics like velvet and velour into one chic infinity scarf with this sewing tutorial! This winter infinity scarf is a perfect project for beginner sewists who are transitioning to a more advanced level of sewing, as this project merges sewing a simple shape with special occasion fabrics. The best part about this project is that it’s reversible, so you can easily dress an outfit up or down depending on what fabric you feel like showing off that day. Stitch up a dreamy cold weather accessory for your winter wardrobe with this tutorial.

Finished Size: 53” in circumference x 8” tall

Materials:

  • 1/2 yard each of two coordinating fabrics. Thick and plush is better; I used a foil printed velour (see note) and a patterned velvet.
  • Coordinating sewing thread

Fabric Note:

Check which way your print runs! For the model shown in the photo, instead of using 1/2 yard of each fabric, I bought 1/2 yard of my velvet but 1  1/2 yards of my other fabric because I wanted the arrows to run the length of the scarf. That left me with a lot of leftovers but I will use that fabric again later – or make more infinity scarves!

Cutting Instructions:

  1. Cut two rectangles out of each fabric, each 9” tall x 27” wide.

Sewing Instructions:

  1. With RS (Right Sides Together), sew one of the 9” (short) ends of rectangle together.
  2. With RS together, sew both long sides (27”) together, making sure to start and end 1/2” from the 9” (short) ends.
  3. Turn right side out.
  4. Turn rectangle back on itself with RS together, matching stitched (short) end to un-stitched (short) ends. Stitch one layer of the un-stitched end to the stitched end along the 9” (short) edges.
  5. Turn seam allowances in towards wrong side/inside (short) end and hand stitch 9” (short) ends all together.
  6. Top stitch along each long side of scarf if desired. If you elect to do the top stitching, your scarf will have a more tailored look with two distinct sides. If you eliminate the top stitching, the fabrics can twist and turn at their leisure, giving you a more boho look. Either works fine!
