Spring is in the air; what better time to sew up some new spring-themed projects? Make a new wardrobe piece, stitch up an adorable spring decoration, and dye more than eggs this year! Here’s a peek inside the March Issue of We Like Sewing!
Editor Obsessions for April
Corduroy is one of those fabrics that does well in many seasons—including spring. We have an adorable mini skirt pattern for you by Traci Anderson. The Cora Spring Mini Skirt has everything you need and skips over extra work you don’t need. This sweet little skirt features a waistband with back elastic, real patch pockets on the front, and a button placket that’s just there for show. Slip this skirt on with your favorite top and head out in style!
How about a little spruce-up for the kitchen? Whip up a batch of our Donut Worry Fabric Bowl Covers with some whimsical fabric. These bowl covers are perfect for family cookouts or potluck dinners. The pattern comes in three sizes: 8, 10, and 12-inch. You can make these bowl covers reversible if you like; stitch them up with rip-stop nylon for easy cleanup.
Creature Feature
Bunnies get a lot of attention this time of year, and for good reason. Look at how sweet our Sleepy Bunny Easter Embroidery Pattern is! Could it be any cuter? Butterflies just make me smile every time I see them. Capture some of that springtime joy with our Social Butterfly Mini Quilt. This bright and cheerful mini quilt features four colorful butterfly blocks you can arrange in the way that pleases you. Use precuts like fat eighths to make this project. This pattern includes corner pockets so you can put your mini quilt on display.
Tutorial Time
We include a different tutorial at the beginning of each issue of We Like Sewing; March’s tutorial is Tea Time: How to Dye Fabric Using Coffee and Tea. Chances are, you’ve done this in the past; I remember using tea to dye fabric for my costume for a school play! While it seems pretty straightforward, there are some dyeing details you’ll want to pay special attention to. The tutorial walks you through the steps of dyeing with coffee (brewed and instant) and tea, and discusses the different results you can expect from each dyeing method. We also provide tips on how to handle your newly-dyed fabric to keep it from fading.
The patterns in our March Issue of We Like Sewing range from Easy to Experienced. That means skill and confidence building for beginning sewists, and interesting challenges for the more experienced among us. All these projects are designed to brighten your day and add more happiness to your home!
