Made with durable burlap, this home décor sewing pattern is easy to customize to your own décor style, making it simple to write out a message of your choice with heat bonded letters. Materials:
- Burlap
- Muslin, 38”w x 7”h (2)
- Print fabric, 1/4 yard
- Poly-fil
- Heat n Bond, Extra Hold
- Play Sand, rice or pellets for filler
Tools:
- Sewing machine
- Big Shot (die cutting machine)
- Alphabet dies, 2”
- Iron
- Scissors
- Pins, optional
Instructions:
- Gather your supplies.
- Iron Heat n Bond to the wrong side of the print fabric, following manufacturer’s instructions.
- Die cut out the letters for “Home Sweet Home” from the print fabric.
- Cut into the burlap at 9 inches.
- Pull a thread at the cut area, this will give you the straight of the grain.
- Cut into the space left behind by the thread you pulled out.
- Repeat Steps 4-6 so that you have two burlap pieces.
- Fray the edges of the burlap pieces, so that you have about an inch of fringe all the way around.
- Center one piece of muslin onto one piece of burlap and zigzag stitch close to the edge all the way around. Repeat for the second burlap piece.
- Fold one of the burlap pieces in half and mark with a pin so that you have a guide for the center point. Working from the middle, center the letters for “Home Sweet Home” onto one of the pieces of burlap.
- Remove the backing and press the letters in place according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Place wrong sides together and stitch around the burlap pieces leaving an opening of about 3-4 inches at the bottom.
- Fill each end with filler and stitch up the closing.
