Dear Sewing Superstar,
With the new year here, my sewing table is already stacked high with projects for friends, family, and even me! There are so many fun projects to work on, I just have to get them organized. Here’s a peek inside the January Issue of We Like Sewing!
Classic Patterns to Make in January
There’s something comforting about making a familiar-looking, cozy garment to get me through the rest of winter. The Aspen V-Neck Sweater Pattern is an easy wardrobe update! Simple and sophisticated, this sweater looks great on its own or layered over a coordinating tank.
The new year is always a great excuse to learn a new skill. Strengthen your quilting skills by making our Awaiting Spring Fussy Cut Economy Square Block to show off your favorite eye-catching prints. Learn the beginner basics of fussy cutting to make a stand-alone piece or the beginnings of a beautiful new quilt!
Bye-Bye, Winter Winds
Whether you love winter or you’re just counting the days until spring, you still need to stay warm if you live where the cold winds blow. Keep your ears toasty warm in style with our custom-made Hit the Slopes Ear Warmer. This easy pattern comes in three sizes, so you can make a new set for the whole family! Those two layers of blizzard fleece will sure come in handy when the temperature drops!
Keep those cold winter winds outside where they belong when you make our Home Sweet Home Draft Stopper. Customize this draft stopper to suit your home décor. Add your own special message to make this draft stopper uniquely yours. This also makes a great, um, housewarming gift, too!
Beautiful Baby Patterns
Welcome the newest addition to your family with a sweet soft baby book. Our Love Grows Here Baby Picture Book tells a story of love and kindness through detailed felt images. This soft, durable book is bound to be a favorite at story time!
If you’re ready for a bigger baby project, make our Rosy Rattles Modern Baby Quilt. This bold modern style quilt will be a cherished addition to baby’s room for years. The pattern includes a special tutorial on cutting precision circles using freezer paper to get those giant rattles just right.
Timely Tutorial & DIY Ideas
The precision circle tutorial isn’t the only tutorial you’ll find in our January issue. We include a different tutorial at the beginning of each issue of We Like Sewing; January’s tutorial is Perfect Fit: How to Do a Full Bust Adjustment. Fuller busted women are often frustrated with off-the-rack garments that don’t fit quite right. Knowing how to adjust the bust on a pattern can make all the difference between a shirt that’s “OK” and a shirt that says Wow!
When your favorite pair of jeans start showing some unwanted wear and tear, you can repair or replace them. Take on the repair job yourself or make yourself a new pair — but before you dig in to the world of denim sewing, you’ll want to read our article, Pure Jean-ius: 9 Types of Denim You Need to Know. Who knew there were so many types of denim? This article covers the types of denim, their most common uses, along with some quick tips for denim sewing success.
The patterns in our January Issue of We Like Sewing range from Easy to Experienced. That means skill and confidence building for beginning sewists, and interesting challenges for the more experienced among us. All these projects are designed to brighten your day, your wardrobe, and your home!
No expert sewing skills are required to make any of the projects in our January Issue. Each pattern in this issue includes a detailed template, pattern notes, and a complete list of the tools and materials you need to succeed. Celebrate the spirit of the holidays and warm up to winter with this month’s projects. Let’s get sewing!

Hello All. Iam a project sewer. I am looking for an older pattern for a wall hanging that has the first verse of Deck the Halls spelled out in cloth and surrounded with holly leaves and berries.
Hi Rita! I was unable to find that pattern using Google, and it is not a pattern offered in our magazine. I would recommend reaching out to older fabric and pattern companies to see if they can provide assistance. Have a great day! – Ashley, We Like Sewing
Do you have a photo? Because I am an IT specialist and I’m sure I can find it if I can see a photo of it. I’d love to help you out.
Hi Rita. I was able to locate what you were looking for. Please feel free to reach out if you are still looking for it. I saved it my files for you.
