Dress(es) for Success in Style

You’ll look sew lovely in a new dress made by hand.

From cute to couture, this dynamic Dresses collection will make style a lot more fun!

Dear Sewing Superstar,

I love to sew, and I love making dresses, tops, and pretty much anything else that comes to mind. Recently, though, I accompanied a friend to some retail shops. She needed shoes for an upcoming event. While we were there, we decided to check out the dresses.

Friends, I was disappointed. So many of them looked the same. From one designer to the next, the patterns were nearly identical. The nicer dresses cost as much as a car payment or two. And the more affordable designs were, well, let’s just say they were a little lacking. I’ve certainly missed a stitch or two in my day, but this was something else.

I went home realizing I had a fortune in dresses hanging in my closet, and since I made them myself, they were inexpensive and meaningful. That’s why my colleagues and I here at We Like Sewing decided to put together this dynamic collection of dresses. Gather some fabric, thread, and one of these patterns and you can have a one-of-a-kind, handmade dress created just for you! How cool is that?

Here’s a look at what you’ll find in this dynamic Dress Collection.

Let’s start with the Spearmint Knit Wrap Dress Pattern, from designer Kimberly Payne. This casual design is perfect for the office or a lazy day exploring your favorite bookstore and joining a friend for coffee. At least, that’s my plan for it!

This dress is chic, comfy, and features a gorgeous vibrant green knit fabric. The wrap dress is secured by both a tie closure and hook and eye at the waist. Pair it with boots and tights for a winter outing, or enjoy a special date night with a strappy pair of heels.

Primrose Ruffle Sleeve Shirred Dress

When you need to dress things up some, the Primrose Shirred Dress Pattern is perfect. Classy, classic, and trendy all at once, this dress is inspired by the nap dress, and is ideal for light to medium fabrics. With thick straps, a shirred bodice, and tiered maxi skirt, the Primrose is comfortable and breezy, and looks great!

Cute and Cozy Girl’s Dress

For the young ones in your life, the Cute and Cozy Girls’ Dress Pattern from Alice Tang is adorable. Designed for babies and toddlers, this dress pattern can be made in lighter weight fabrics like chambray or gingham for warm fall days or a slightly heavier cotton in winter prints like buffalo plaid.

I don’t know about you, but I can always use another party dress, especially one as fun as the High Society Holiday Party Dress. Don’t let “holiday” fool you, though. Featuring a square neckline and flowy silhouette, this dress is a little bit New York society girl with a sprinkle of boho chic and a dash of vintage charm, which works any time! You’ll be sure to get compliments anywhere you show up with this dress.

All of these patterns come with detailed instructions, plus advice on selecting fabrics and fabric patterns, as well as tips on sizing. Find out how to plan for different lengths and learn how to mark and cut your pattern depending on the dimensions you choose for your project.

The spearmint wrap dress looks homemade – POORLY homemade. It should have been better staged – seams and finishes steam pressed, hemline made straight to name the obvious… so disappointing this is indicative of your ‘dynamic dress collection’. Count me out.
