First of all, what is a furnishing fabric? It is the sort of material that we might use to make curtains or to cover a sofa. It is often heavier duty and not always pure cotton. Usually this last point matters and I am constantly writing about not using mixed fiber fabrics such as cheap dress fabrics made from poly-cotton. So I am feeling slightly hypocritical sending you off to buy something that I KNOW is not pure cotton but with furnishing fabrics, allowances have to be made because at their heart, these fabrics are made to be easy care; imagine sticky fingers or paws on a sofa. You cannot bundle the whole sofa into a washing machine so something that is wipeable is a real asset.  READ MORE
