Enchanting Patterns!

”Slip” into something comfortable, styled your way!

Dear Sewing Superstar,

August. Still hot, but with fall rolling up on the horizon. Take your pick of some back-to-school prep, a spruce-up of your kitchen or living room, or maybe a sweet treat just for you. Here’s a peek inside the August Issue of We Like Sewing!

Bewitching Patterns for August

Dress it up or dress it down, but next to the essential little black dress, we can all use an elegant slip dress. Our Elise Slip Dress is whatever you want it to be: fun and flirty, dramatic and daring, sweet and silky. The designer gives you choices so you can style this dress your way: V-neck with a lining or a round neck with a side slit. Choose your favorite look!

Wear your new slip dress out for a moonlight walk, then bring the moonlight back inside with our Lunar Throw Quilt. This is a great time to celebrate the upcoming change of seasons (with a nod to Halloween just around the corner!). This enchanting quilt features a radiant full moon in shades of steel, ivory, and pale gray set against a beautiful background of moonlit hills.

For Hearth and Home

Design your own custom, chenille home décor with our Indigo Chenille Throw Pillow Cover. This project walks you through the process of creating soft, textured chenille fabric for a unique pillow cover that’s sure to draw compliments! Dress up your space using this fun technique to create a one-of-a-kind pillow cover!

Some of my favorite pans have steel or cast iron handles that get plenty hot when I cook. Get a break from the heat and make yourself some pretty and practical pan handle covers. Our Peridot Pan Handle Cover Set includes a pattern for pan handle covers plus a classic potholder with a snazzy hanging loop. Make the set and give it as a gift—for yourself or someone else!

Fun Fall Makes

Back-to-school time is just around the corner, and you can put a smile on a child’s face with a cute little lip balm holder. Make a bunch of these Bring a Smile Emoji Lip Balm Cases as a fun attachment for backpacks and lunch boxes. You can stitch up these little felt cuties in no time—maybe make some extra for stocking stuffers. A little felt goes a long way!

Get a good dose of “spooky cute” with our My Boo Ghost Paper Pieced Block. It’s never too early to make a new decoration for Halloween, and this quilt block is just the thing. Stick to traditional white with a gray background or experiment with bolder Halloween colors for some trick-or-treat fun. Just picture this bootiful ghost on a new throw pillow!

Tutorial Time!

We like to offer our readers topic-specific tutorials in We Like Sewing; August’s tutorial is All About Reverse Appliqué: A Beginner’s Guide. This is a great technique to embellish an otherwise boring shirt, or to creatively “remove” a stain. With this reverse technique, you cut away the main fabric to reveal the new layer underneath. This works great on knit fabrics, since they don’t fray like woven fabrics. But the tutorial gives you tips on working with both types of fabric. You’ll have lots of creative leeway here!

Sewing 101

We’re all at different places on our sewing journey, so we like to share tips on a broad range of sewing topics. Plus, let’s be honest: a little refresher on some aspects of sewing never hurt. This month, read Sewing 101: Different Types of Interfacing. This is a sewing essential, but it can be easy to pick the wrong type of interfacing. Our article walks you through the different types of interfacing and the best ones to use depending on what you’re making. Don’t go to the fabric store before you read about the different types and weaves of interfacing that will add the right stability to your next garment project.

The patterns in our August Issue of We Like Sewing range from Easy to Experienced. That means skill and confidence building for beginning sewists, and interesting challenges for the more experienced among us. All these projects are designed to add fun, color, and style to your sewing time!

No expert sewing skills are required to make any of the projects in our August Issue. Each pattern in this issue includes a detailed template, pattern notes, and a complete list of the tools and materials you need to succeed. Beat the August heat with these cool sewing projects!
